Organized market where stocks and bonds are traded. Members, or stock brokers, buy and sell for themselves or on behalf of others, usually charging a commission for the service.

There are stock exchanges in all the important financial centers of the world. The New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), in operation since 1792, is the largest.
